"Sibshops acknowledge that being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, others a not-so-good thing, and for many, somewhere in-between. They reflect a belief that brothers and sisters have much to offer one another — if they are given a chance. Sibshops are a spirited mix of new games (designed to be unique, off-beat, and appealing to a wide ability range), new friends, and discussion activities." -Sibling Support Project
Snowflake House Respite Foundation provides Sibshops on Wednesday evenings in the fall and spring, facilitated by two certified first-generation Sibshop Facilitators, with the help of other volunteers. These Sibshops are designed for children aged 6-12yo who have a sibling with special needs (physical, cognitive, behavioural). Please note that these ages are somewhat flexible.
Parents/caregivers may register their 'sibs' for one, some, or all of the workshops, provided spaces are available. Sibshops are accessible to all families who are raising children with special needs, regardless of whether or not the family accesses Snowflake House's hourly respite services. Contact us for further information. Snowflake House Sibshops are registered with The Sibling Support Project and follow the Sibshop Standards of Practice.
